„No American President has ever before issued executive orders like the one at issue in this lawsuit targeting a prominent law firm with adverse actions to be executed by all Executive branch agencies but, in purpose and effect, this action draws from a playbook as old as Shakespeare, who penned the phrase: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE,HENRY VI,PART 2, act 4, sc. 2, l. 75. When Shakespeare’s character, a rebel leader intent on becoming king, seeid. l. 74, hears this suggestion, he promptly incorporates this tactic as part of his plan to assume power, leading in the same scene to the rebel leader demanding “[a]way with him,” referring to an educated clerk, who “can make obligations and write court hand,” id. l. 90, 106. Eliminating lawyers as the guardians of the rule of law removes a major impediment to the path to more power. SeeWalters v. Nat’l Ass’n of Radiation Survivors, 473 U.S. 305, 371 n.24 (1985) (Stevens, J., dissenting) (explaining the import of the same Shakespearean statement to be “that disposing of lawyers is a step in the direction of a totalitarian form of government”).“

Who would have thought that the Trump administration would do something that is unconstitutional. /s

I hope the firms that folded and decided to work for Trump for free are feeling pretty dumb right now.

Old enough to remember when Paul WeiS.S. „had no choice“ but to fold, but they were targeted after Perkins Coie.

When a federal ruling opens with Shakespeare’s ‚kill all the lawyers,‘ you know it’s not just a legal smackdown, it’s theatrical execution. Damn

Seriously?
The gaslighting is overwhelming.
Do they really think they can weaponize the entire US legal ecosystem by making toothless threats to each and every major legal entity? (Sad part: 9 firms have already fallen for it)
>[Judge] Howell wrote “…this action draws from a playbook as old as Shakespeare, who penned the phrase: ‘The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.’”
>“Trump directed agencies to review contracts held by the firm’s clients for possible termination, bar firm personnel from entering federal government buildings, and strip lawyers of their security clearances.“
Judge Howell’s ruling comes after nine other law firms opted to strike deals with the White House to avoid similar executive orders.
This flimsy garbage is based on Trump sulking about nearly losing to Hilary in 2016!
GOOD ON YOU, WASHINGTON LAW FIRM Perkins Coie. FIGHT THIS IDIOT FASCIST
>Perkins Coie was the first of four law firms to sue Trump after being hit with executive orders against them.
This is another doozy from dumbBlondi — Trump’s lackey AG, the Gaetz replacement, a TOTAL legal HACK

The other law firms who refused to stand up to Trump are now on the hook for millions in pro bono work, when they could have fought and won. I hope they learn that it doesn’t pay to be spineless.

I predict the following spin: we have a rogue judge talking about Shakespeare, instead of quoting the law and the Constitution. This creative writing major, who couldn’t get a job at Starbucks, thinks a foreigner who writes plays knows more about keeping America great than our founding fathers. The judge should spend time reading about how dangerous our country has become, how other countries are robbing us blind, and how the left engages in religious persecution – instead of reading the materials from a 7th grade English class.

the article didn’t seem to mention it – but I believe in the initial TRO, the judge was unable to interfere with the revocation of the firm’s security clearances – I assume that’s still the case here?
assuming that’s true, sadly I think as long as he’s able to arbitrarily strip firms of clearance, we’re going to continue to see firms take a knee

Are we taking bets to see how long before the judge is arrested for one reason or another?
