It makes sense for the US to stay allied with Britian even if we drop the rest of Europe. We are first and foremost a naval power and Britian is the best naval base for controlling The north Atlantic, and has interests of its own in preventing a unified Europe.
And Britian economically needs a new financial block to plug into. Bringing Britian into the NAFTA and CAFTA system would benefit everyone. And the US is a far larger market then the commonwealth britian is trying to form into a trade bloc.
