Imprtant note – In total, in 2024, Georgian citizenship was granted to 3,587 people. Of these, 2,739 were born in Georgia, 844 in another country, and 4 people did not have their place of birth specified.
It’s often people with a lot of money, at least they are paying taxes. I have a couple of people around that lived in Sakartvelo for 10+ years and can’t acquire residence permit because they don’t have normal income.

I’m pretty much sure most of them presumably are NOT ethnic Russians, but ethnic Georgians or Georgian Armenians with Russian passports.
There is near to zero chance that ethnic Russians would acquire Georgian citizenship. (Unless they are very very close to Ivanishvili and ruling class as such and did them a huge favour)
Those who might be granted Georgian citizenship “by birth” (i.e. inherited from one’s parents – Georgian citizens) could be refused maintaining Georgian citizenship, and that’s not rare actually.
You might not believe me, but officials are doing everything possible to filter applications coming from Russian citizens. There ARE quotas on granting citizenship let along residencies obviously and it’s understandable.

There’s a good deal of Georgians in Russia, looking at the data it seems to be those born in Georgia and the rest are likely to be the diaspora. For all the comments in the papers of the poverty of Russia, a georgian passport isn’t the ideal to shoot for when hunting for a new and flashier life. With the collapse in the birthrate we should be all the more aware of surges in immigration and adoptinf the european system of handing out of passports like candy, but these numbers are pretty small even if they were ethnic russians
