
Ich bin ein internationaler Student, der hier in Finnland studiert, und während ich herumläufe, bin ich auf diesen seltsamen Ort gestoßen – es sieht aus wie eine Tunnel oder eine unterirdische Garage mit einer großen Metalltür und einem Dreiecksymbol darüber. Es befindet sich in der Nähe eines Wohngebiets und scheint etwas versteckt zu sein.
Weiß jemand, wofür das verwendet wird? Eine Art Schutz oder Versorgungszugang? Nur neugierig, weil es in der schneebedeckten Umgebung interessant und ein bisschen mysteriös aussah

Those places can be huge – and I have seen a glimpse of the vast underground shelter and tunnel system under the centre of Helsinki back in the 90’s. What you have had in these news videos and clips is just a small part of a really massive complex.

Both, most likely. Finland has a stable bedrock and very thin soil. Everything is expensive to excavate, but practically eternal once built. That’s part of the reason why big cities are built in several levels. Underground facilities often house practical instruments for residential areas, like ventilation, data cables, water pipelines etc., conveniently out of the way. At the same time they work as a shelter in emergencies.

This is (or was in this case) a väestönsuoja/bomb shelter sign. You can find them all around Finland. Even in apartment buildings! (1200m² and larger buildings)
