And what happens when he just ignores them and does it anyways? What can they actually do to enforce it?

    2. The headline here fails to mention that the supposed block is merely a „stay“ of the orders to deport… and the „stay“ can be removed when the court actually issues a ruling on the ACLU appeal. So this is a ***temporary block***, and should have been headlined as such – lest those opposing the deportations think that they’ve actually won the battle.

You mean denying due process? Like the 4th, 5th ,6th and 8th amendments?

    4. No_Friend4042 on

OMG did SCOTUS actually do something good on behalf of the US? It’s about time.

    5. ForefathersOneandAll on

Naturally, Alito and Thomas both dissented. They’re pissed that their king is being reined in.

    6. ElderberrySeveral382 on

Since when did “NEVER AGAIN” become “Maybe in 80-90 years”?

    7. Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented. Fuck these guys. If it was up to them, we would be heading straight for a dictatorship with them as supreme ayatollahs

„The president cannot be constrained by law, Constitution, or a requirement for due process. He is, after all, a Republican.“

      -Thomas and Alito

Did they though? Looks like the next executive order will be dismantling the high court.

    10. ReaderBeeRottweiler on

Trump and the rest of the administration have been silent since this ruling…no response from anyone, anywhere.

    11. Finally, good news against the Trump Crime Syndicate.

      PS: self-deport Alito and Thomas.

    12. Bold of anyone to assume that the shitstain administration will follow the Supreme Court’s decision.

    13. Dostoevsky-fan on

Let me fix that headline. “SCOTUS dramatically fails to stop Trumps Brazen immigrant roundup.”

He will ignore this since they already gave him Carte Blanche to break any law he feels like breaking.

      We are so screwed.

The amount of money they and our elected reps on all sides made millions in insider trading during the First Felons tariff game. We lose. They all made a killing (, literally) with covid money, too. The greed of the rich is never satisfied.

    15. Is this going to be just for one day until Trump declares a state of emergency and war powers act on Sunday?

    16. SockPuppet-47 on

      Really?

I’ll believe it when he complies with the order. Trump is pretty deep in his delusion of being above the law.

After all God himself has his back. /s

Thomas and Alito dissenting is just expected at this point. Those two NOT dissenting about bringing Kilmar Garcia back genuinely shocked me. I figured they would cite some scrap of paper that Thomas Jefferson once used to wrap his weed with to claim that there is historical precedent for Kilmar to be deported without due process.

Ha, ha, ha. Best comedy I’ve read all week.

Of course it will be brazenly ignored; what do you expect Trump, Musk, Vance et al to do? They’ve done it countless times before in the past three months.

So far as I’m concerned, this article is borderline clickbait, because no-one, absolutely no-one, in the US has any power to change things anymore bar those at the top – who are beholden to their own whims which they try to codify into laws which they inevitably end up breaking.

    19. He’s already defied SCOTUS this month, does anyone believe he won’t simply do it again?

    20. Until they have started arresting these people for contempt, they haven’t „dramatically stopped“ shit.

    21. I was really happy to see this headline, and it is a win and a step in the right direction. But then I saw this and my Cheerios had piss in them real quick:

      >> The Court’s order applies to any migrant detained in the Northern District of Texas who would be removed under the 18th-century Alien Enemies Act. The Court’s ruling does not apply in other jurisdictions.

So does this mean they can simply move these detainees to another jurisdiction and then proceed to send them away? Or is the ruling tied to the individuals irrespective of where they are moved to?

    22. Raspberries-Are-Evil on

How so, Trump will ignore this like the other ruling. Or he will just lie and say he „won“ the case.

    23. Inside-Cod1550 on

This is a temporary stay, so no permanent victory, but let’s remember that at the very least this signals that scotus is starting to see and react against bad faith actions of the administration

    24. williamgman on

Let’s see IF they can find a way to even enforce their decisions against him.

    25. PinSufficient5748 on

I’m no fan of Amy C. Barrett, but I’ll never forget that look of pure disgust on her face at the SoTU address. Even she’s had enough. Lol

    26. skeptolojist on

No they told him to stop

That’s not the same thing as stopping him

They told him to get the guy back but he’s still there I don’t see what’s different here the dictator is going to ignore the court

And they helped give him the power to do so

    27. Clarence „Heinrich Himmler“ Thomas and Samuel „Hans Landa“ Alito. Aspiring Schutzstaffel generals.

    28. It’s all worthless since Trump doesn’t care what they say or will follow rulings.

    29. Independent-Roof-774 on

Headline is wrong.   They haven’t stopped anything.     The just issued a ruling, but rulings have no effect on Trump.

    30. Looks like their billionaire owners got cold feet when the trump admin started renditioning random citizens
