  1. >In statements to the Turkish television „Sözcü TV“, Mr. Denktash even went so far as to propose that Turkey recognize the Republic of Cyprus and open an embassy in „southern Cyprus“. He argued that such a move would not harm Turkey or the pseudo-state, but would make Ankara the only country that recognizes two states in Cyprus, highlighting the existence of „other formulas“.

Didn’t he retire some years ago? I wonder what influence he still has among the people and by extent the politicians.

Also, is he the first to suggest something like that or has this idea been making rounds in the TC parliament?

Good luck with that, that would mean political suicide in Turkey and it would probably cause an even more nationalistic and anti-West Turkish president to take power (which looks to be possible with Imamoglu’s CHP)

  4. Look, Turkey will never leave the north. Compared to other worlds conflicts, Cyprus has been peaceful since 1974, thank god. Just have a peace agreement that both sides agree to, compensate the people who lost property, open up the border, have trade and commerce flow, make both sides wealthier, open up Ercan to the South, open up Turkish airspace to the South, etc.
