Currency exchange is expensive at EVERY airport in the world
Well, if you read this sub, it always advices to not take taxi at the airport or exchange your money there..did you also take a 20k taxi?
Thats why i have leftover amd from my last visit, had no idea they take a different rate at the airport so i got bamboozled, no siree i have my dram and will order a taxi with whatever i have

Advice for the future never exchange currency at any airport and never get into actual taxis at the airport in armenia use apps they are much better regulated
I think eventually this issue with the taxis will be tackled but right now the political climate is too tense to „deprive taxi scammers of a goldmine“ so they will start spreading bs like everything was better before when everything was more corrupt
You never exchange money at an airport. Never. Not any airport.
You never arrive at a country and get in a taxi with a guy saying „taxi, taxi“. Never. Not any airport.
You use a credit card linked taxi app (the local version of Uber) to get you to your hotel and there you look for a Bankomat/ATM without high fees. (Basically normal bank cash machine in Armenia’s case).

Please download either Yandex or GG taxi apps (or both) and *only use those to get around in Yerevan*! Unless you walk of course. If you do not, you will probably get inflated prices again.
You should have gotten 215,000
So basically you let them keep 65,000 AMD
But I’m biased, been traveling 23 years nonstop and haven’t used a currency exchange in all this time – except in the basement of the airport in Indonesia because it was only a 1% loss. I just take money out of the ATM.
