Totally unfounded and unnecessary tariff based on a bullshit tariff figure from their side. Percentage trade deficit is not – in any way – a tariff charged to the U.S

Our president is easily the dumbest man alive. I can’t believe this is the reality we are in rn.

    3. Dont give a fuck, Im happy to phase america out of this world alltogether. I dont read any news article that has his ugly melted orange raisin face on anymore.

    4. I saw this post on X: [https://x.com/JamesSurowiecki/status/1907559189234196942](https://x.com/JamesSurowiecki/status/1907559189234196942)

      >Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn’t actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country’s exports to us.

      >So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.

I did the same calculation for Norway [using numbers from SSB](https://www.ssb.no/utenriksokonomi/utenrikshandel/statistikk/utenrikshandel-med-varer/artikler/norges-handel-med-usa).

62MNOK / 82.7MNOK = 75%. So that guy’s math doesn’t math for Norway. I wonder what calculation the Trump admin put behind the numbers. if any…. Because we don’t have 30% tariffs on the US…

Paul Krugman, a renowned economist in the US, is also wondering how they came to these percentages: [https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/trump-goes-crazy-on-trade?open=false](https://paulkrugman.substack.com/p/trump-goes-crazy-on-trade?open=false)
