Think of it as a wooden pillow or stool. You can rest your head or feet on it.

I always thought it was a child seat. As for why there is a need for a child seat in sauna, I have no idea

Lots of nice trys here, but nobody has yet revealed the true nature of this device: It is a steam spoiler you can use to direct the hot wawes towards or away from any target you prefer (to a Swedish cousin, away from the cold beer).
