Mesut Yılmaz, der mehrmals als Premierminister in der Türkei fungierte, ist ein Hemshin. Hemshins sind muslimische Armenier, die in der Türkei leben.

Fun fact – he became PM only because of soft coup against Erbakan in 1997.
He is not Armenian. Armenians were not only people who lived in Hemshin i dunno what makes people to think Hemshin was 100% Armenian, there is a sizable Laz community there as well.
He might have been of Hemshin origin, but I’m sure he was Turkish by first language and self-identity. Hemshins are distinct from the Armenian community in Turkey anyway.
And There is a president that might have a armenian descendant Abdullah Gül.
In fact there is so much president or politician that has different races other than turkish
The most popular one is Turgut Özal He was a sunni kurd for example.
Half the population of Turkey has Armenian origins if you go back far enough. Not really important if they aren’t raised as Armenian.
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was defeated by Erdoğan in the 2023 general elections, was also of Armenian origin on his mother’s side. It may come as a surprise, but in Turkey, your ethnicity does not prevent you from having a successful career. After all, Erdoğan is also a Georgian from Adjara.
In the Ottoman Empire (even today), Armenian identity and being affiliated with the Armenian Apostolic Church were intertwined. It was an ethno-religious community and then became a nation. If you were a Gregorian Armenian, you couldn’t marry a Catholic Armenian. People who wanted to reject Armenian identity or being forced to reject it had to convert to another religion.
They’re all Armenian lol, to some degree, they just don’t know it. Self-hating Armenians
