      China’s economy gathered momentum at the start of the year despite President Trump increasing tariffs on the country, signalling that Beijing’s stimulus efforts have started to aid spending.

      Retail sales in the world’s second-largest economy rose by 4% year-on-year in January and February, up from December’s 3.7% annual increase and above analysts’ forecasts.
