The Trump administration wants Iran to abandon all aspects of its nuclear program, the US national security advisor said on Sunday, warning that all options are on the table should Tehran refuse.
Or else they appease them like they appeased Russia?
Didn’t Trump pull out of the nuclear deal Obama worked out, causing us to be in this situation?

It would be pretty bad if a country like that got WMD’s. We just have to look at how they treat their women to understand how they would try to treat other countries if they had power over them (ability to threaten WMD’s)
We saw what happened to Ukraine when all of these countries made them give up their arsenal. We also see how much shit North Korea gets away with because of their WMD. No sane government would give up their program after Trump destroyed all the goodwill that existed.

If only there were some sort of deal that would allow people to inspect Iran’s nuclear programme and make sure they aren’t developing nuclear weapons…. Oh wait…
Or else what? Sanctions? We’ve already done that. International cooperation to keep their nuclear program in check? We had that, and Trump dumped it because he doesn’t do international cooperation. War? I could see Trump sending in the bombers because his Big Mac didn’t sit well overnight.

What a disaster for US/Iraq relations. This posturing is unsustainable (unsettling as well). Both parties need to find a common ground, and build a path towards a better future for all citizens.
Iran has no incentive to comply with this threat.
Further sanctions are possible but will largely be irrelevant. The Gulf States get little or nothing out of contributing (especially considering the post-10/7 tensions now exacerbated by Trump saying he wants to annex and ethnically cleanse Gaza) and Iran’s trade ties with the West have been systematically reduced over the years. And Russia, itself under sanctions, is certainly not going to be involved.
A new deal is vanishingly unlikely. Trump’s trade war with Mexico and Canada flagrantly violates the „new NAFTA“ deal he heralded just a few years ago. If he’s perfectly happy to tear up his own agreements, he’s not going to be seen as willing to negotiate in good faith. And if he’s not willing to negotiate in good faith, all he’s got are threats like these. (Bonus points: he unilaterally bowed out of the last set of deals so that’s even less likely)
Europe is unlikely to support either of the two above options because Trump has effectively made them an enemy while cozying up to Russia over what they consider to be *the* issue facing them. Trump has no soft power left with which to compel them to support this so getting them on board will likely include (more) threats towards them. Which isn’t going to get him very far.
Ukraine and North Korea are testament to the new mantra of geopolitics: „if you don’t have nukes, strongly consider getting them. If you do, never, ever give them up.“ Iran isn’t dumb and can likely read between the lines here.
A punitive action is possible but unlikely to go anywhere. This is the same song and dance Iran and Israel have been involved in several times over the past two years.
Full-blown invasion is possible but incredibly stupid. Iran has more people than Iraq and Afghanistan combined. It has larger cities than Iraq (imagine Fallujah but Isfahan-scaled), terrain as inhospitable as much of Afghanistan, and an attack on it would destabilize the delicate balance of power in Iraq. Plus America seems to be hell bent on eroding its force projection abilities by antagonizing all its allies, which would complicate the logistics to support an invasion in the first place.
But for what’s probably the single most important reason: Trump isn’t about to attack one of Putin’s most valued partners.
It’s amazing to see how Trump’s hate in this place is much more important to people than stopping a genocidal terrorist regime from having nuclear weapons.
Good move by Trump. Now hopefully there would be consequences if Iran doesn’t abide, and not just empty words.
