France crippled her own finances to support America in their war against Great Britain – it’s questionable whether America would have prevailed without the support.
Seems to me that French support for America has deep parallels to eg American/French support for Ukraine – in both cases the support is in part a moral issue, but also a geopolitical strategy to weaken an old enemy.
Americans were defending against a smaller country on the other side of the ocean because they didn’t get enough representation for the amount of taxation.
Ukrainians are defending against the larger country right next to them because they’re threatened a genocide and complete eradication. I’d say Ukrainians have a much bigger fight in their hands.

In the US war of Independence, a local elite fought off an other local, but foreign backed, elite to cement their own power.
Outside powers had been involved, but only in so far that the foreign backer could bring their full force to bear, and also as minor participants (mainly in form of Native Americans support) on the side of the colonial elites.
Not many beyond a surface level. In this analogy Burgoyne wins at Saratoga and successfully secures the Hudson and divides the colonies instead of being beaten and bringing France into the war. The Ukrainians lost in their summer offensive in 2023. France, Spain, and the Netherlands directly fought in the war, French seapower won at Yorktown and the siege of Gibraltar kept resources in Europe. There is next to no chance that the US or NATO joins and helps.

None the Americans revolted over higher taxes they had to pay off because George washington started the seven years war which Britain payed for in lives.
