    1. This is so sad to see. Corruption at it’s finest. The conflict of interest that exists here is so obvious it hurts my brain

Cn these people not just say no? It’s already on record they don’t the authority to actually fire them.

    3. So NASA’s biggest private contractor, the person who stands to gain substantially if NASA guts its staff, is the person ordering these cuts. I’m sure Elon’s motives here are purely altruistic and not at all motivated by craven self-interest. /s

Everyone suffers for this. The US likes to proclaim itself the greatest nation on Earth. A dubious claim at best.

However at space exploration? The US are hands down the world champions by a comfortable margin. NASA is one of the greatest organisations in human history.

Every human alive today can have a better understanding of what, who we are and where we came from. NASA has enriched what it means to be a human being and to live in this universe.

      What a truly sad development.

The US is nerfing itself. Other actors will fill these roles.

Obviously DOGE is cutting off any competition so Elon can become the space oligarch. Dude is so high on Ketamine he’s lost grip of reality. Even people on the Space X board have been trying to warn people about drug addict Musk.

Guess China is going to have a whole lot of talented people to hire in the next few weeks.

    7. 23 people fired. Primarily from the Diversity equity and inclusion office and office is chief scientist. The chief scientist was a climate scientist btw. Other than that the office of technology, policy and strategy was closed.

This is where Congress needs to step up and say that SpaceX is not allowed to accept government subsidies while Elon Musk holds any position of political influence. Conflict of interests and all that.

A lot of businesses in my home town got really upset because they temporarily shut down one of the gates to the NASA facility nearby which essentially made it impractical for NASA employees do go out for the lunch rush and get food. That was for 6 months. I reckon a lot of them will be mad again despite voting for trump

    10. He’s taking their jobs and replacing them with space x employees and AI

What if they just didn’t comply. Totally ignore it. I bet they wouldn’t even notice. Or change titles

I guess I’m just too stupid to understand how this makes America great.

    13. 77million people explicitly voted for this to happen. The American people spoke and loudly said “we don’t value things like space travel”

Hopefully programs like ESA can help these people take their expertise to countries that value science.

    14. The fact that basically no one is refusing to comply is disheartening . I know it’s part of the government so they don’t have a choice , but still , you’d expect at least a modicum of backbone or something .

    15. It’s worth noting that NASA is vastly more than just a space agency. NASA has been critical in solving a number of high profile and unfathomably important aviation accidents, to say nothing of their innumerable contributions to aviation in general.

SpaceX, on the other hand, has had almost no actual „innovations“ on their own, just the near unrestricted budget of a ketamine fueled madman and the code necessary to make things like propulsive landing work. They got freebies of all the important stuff for their work from NASA doing it all for them.

All of the intelligent scientist, doctors, etc are just going to flee the country to work elsewhere. We are going to see a scientific deficiency for years

    17. TuckerCarlsonsOhface on

*Phew* I was getting concerned there wouldn’t be enough in the budget for the millions being spent on golfing at trump resorts.

Russia and China are ready to recruit all of these federal workers who have deep insight into our security and data integrity systems. This should work out just fine.
