Ha, funny coincidence. I just ordered [her book](https://www.standaardboekhandel.be/p/een-heel-klein-beetje-vrede-9789493409927) for our commanding officers-to-be.

I think she may be a bit optimistic though. Europe has a lot of work to do putting its own house in order if we want to regain the international status we held during, let’s say, the 2nd half of the 20th century.

In Asia and Africa, people and nations are no longer looking at us for guidance, help or inspiration. They’ve turned to Russia and China. Saudi Arabia meanwhile is using its oil dollars to buy itself the soft power we used to have: brokering peace deals in international conflicts, hosting sports events…

Europe will have to be humble, work hard and put our money where our mouths are if we want to regain some respect. Or we could invade some (brown people’s) country, kick their ass and steal their resources, that works too. After all nothing unites like a common enemy.
