I think the definition of inflation need to be looked at. Things in Geneva at least are always going up and definitely not by 0.4%

    2. Mandatory health insurance has grown by more than 10 percent annually over the past 3 years here in Ticino.

      Not included in inflation calculations.

      Just saying …

The Swiss inflation figures are utter nonsense.

I’ve no idea what bizarre weighting/algo they use but it does not reflect reality.

It definitely doesn’t take shrinkflation into account.

    4. Capital is currently moving from the US into Europe.

One could think this is a good thing, and to some degree it is. But longer term I see uncertainty. The US is weaking itself and tries to bully its allies and trading partners.

Switzerland benefits the most when its neighbors and trading partners are strong and stable. Our private banks and the SNB is heavily invested in the US. When the US is in a recession, eventually everyone else suffers as well.

But the hopeful message here is that investment in clean and more efficient energy (see the reports and announcements of Swiss energy companies) is paying off, as well as the federal council pressuring them to lower energy prices because of their high profit.

I’m hopeful that this will continue and be generally supported. It _directly_ supports our cantons financially. It strengthens our independence and prosperity long term and it contributes positively to environmental sustainability.

    5. Rent, insurances, energy and food cost doubled over the past 20 years in price.

      Salaries… Not even close.

Inflation is theft regardless of how big it is a year. Its compounding so 1% or 0.5% or 2.5% crushes the middle class eventually over a long enough timespan.

    6. I see a lot of people are challenged by two things: 1. A basket of goods maybe not being representative for your specific situation. 2. The concept of an average across a country.
Tbh: we should go inspect the basket to see how representative it is…
