Was? Werden sie uns 4 Mal pro Woche später schneiden?

  2. Can’t really do much. Especially with the mild temperatures coming up and no tourism, the frequency of these cuts will increase, ever more so during weekends. Until some storage comes, this will be a daily phenomenon.

There have been some grant schemes announced for PV producers and net-billing systems, but the ministry must provide better incentives for people to install batteries at home and proceed with the installation of batteries at Dekhelia.

Until then the only thing you can do that will affect your bill is trying and be careful with your energy spending.

When the EAC cut us off, say for around 4 hours, do we use their electricity and pay full or do we use our electricity we have stored and pay less?

Can’t you cut the communication between EAC and your inverter? How does that work in technical terms? There must be some kind of a communication line between you and the provider. If it’s done wireless, build box covered with aluminium foil & copper net around it. If they really come check your installation, you can easily remove your shield and pretend nothing happened.

Batteries were approved to be installed to private owned properties. If you install one, you probably will offset these cutoffs and start selling again when they re-enable it (better ask an expert as I’m not one).

  6. I find it amazing that people go and install PVs and don’t even know who are the ones that connect/disconnects them from the grid. It’s not EAC you imbeciles.

P.s in the summer you won’t be having this issue because you ll have a million tourists and a million houses all blasting their acs and demand will be high..

  7. If EAC had built their own solar system and updated their energy grid instead of wasting everyones money on burning petrol all these years. Then, people would not have to install solar panels at all… Living on an island with 300 days of sun and still rely on burning fuel is ridiculous.

  8. I have several questions:
    1. Why batteries are not allowed to be installed to store produced energy?
    2. Why don’t they build a reservoir somewhere in the mountains higher than the existing one. And with excessive solar energy use pumps to move water higher. When there’s no solar, the water from a higher reservoir can be used to rotate turbines of a hydro power plant. This could be done with salt water, but it’s more expensive not to damage the soil and keep the pipes not rusty.
    3. If there’s overproduction of energy (supply) when the demand is limited, why not lower the price during peak hours so that people could buy electricity to launch washing machines, dishwashers, etc?

Fun fact: Tesla has stated that they are interested to build an energy storage system in Cyprus. They have done so in many countries with success for the owners. But that would be too easy, wouldn’t it?

I think we are not allowed to have a battery system at home. Or this might have changed in the aftermath of the cuts. Also if anyone knows here. Is the output of the domestic PV panels sent directly to the grid? Or does it first meet the house’s demand and then put out the excess? Because if it’s the first, you could be using all the electricity in the world at home and still have the EAC cut your supply.
