Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, steadfast in his vision for his nation’s future, is now poised to sign a monumental mineral deal. In the face of unrelenting adversity and conflict, he turns his gaze toward the earth beneath, where the wealth of untapped minerals lie, waiting to fuel the resurgence of Ukraine. This agreement promises to reshape Ukraine’s economic landscape, bringing with it the prospect of self-sufficiency, independence, and prosperity that could emerge from the shadows of war.

With this deal, Zelensky seeks not just to secure minerals, but to forge a path toward resilience—a path that echoes the strength of a nation that refuses to be defined by its suffering. The signing, an act of defiance against those who wish to break his country, is a declaration that Ukraine will rise, like a phoenix from the ashes, to stand on the global stage, rich in resources, powerful in resolve, and unyielding in its will to endure.

In this new chapter, the mineral deposits beneath the soil are not mere commodities; they are symbols of Ukraine’s sovereignty, its future, and its unbreakable spirit. Zelensky, with the weight of his nation’s dreams on his shoulders, prepares to make a move that could echo through history as the moment Ukraine turned the tide, not just in the battlefield, but in its destiny.

Zelensky has now lost 30% of the leverage he once had, which was primarily soft power, and has put Europe in a position where they must choose between supporting Ukraine and antagonizing Trump. We can debate who is to blame, but this is the current reality.

As for the minerals, no one even knows if they exist in significant quantities. Bloomberg reported that they might not have any at all, and the claims are based on Soviet-era studies. That’s why I find this deal so confusing; surely the administration must realize they might not be all that monetizable.
