I don’t think so and I think it’s about time serious news publications stop with these abstractions of “transatlantic alliance,” “rules based order,” which if they ever existed, are not given any due by the person in charge currently.

A simple look at geopolitics reveals that Europe cannot defend itself alone without US help. This could change in the very long-term if Europe so decides to make rapid and significant changes to its defence apparatus. Which will come at a significant cost so can’t be sure if that happens to begin with.

This alliance of self-interests still has the same incentive system guiding it, one could say now they have “momentum” or whatever. But the fundamental reality hasn’t changed in any way. Notice how all of their statements have been relatively easy for Trump not saying anything about him specifically.

As an aside I’ll point out after having watch the 10 min clip twice and the whole thing once, I think Zelensky would’ve better off staying silent when Vance spoke. What did he get by asking that question? Did it help his country? Was that in his self-interest? Now someone will come in and explain how he felt that was necessary. You can’t have it all especially when you have no leverage and are also in hostile territory.
