Someone needed some attention. Or to divert attention from something.
For starters, Malta’s idea of having the golden passport scheme was not something new. Other countries did it.
The problem is, the way it was gestured and how the money was squandered
We offered the cheapest (or near cheapest) of schemes, while Trump is probably one of the highest (7 times the amount requested by Malta). This alone differs from having shady people Vs real investors.
I’d say he’s tone deaf, but check out the comments on his FB post. His weird-ass followers see this as a great thing.
This is poor, shallow reporting. The two programs are not „eerily similar“ in function. Malta’s golden passport („Citizenship by Naturalization for Exceptional Services by Direct Investment“) directly offers citizenship, not just a „path to citizenship“. The USA’s EB-5 program and the program Trump announced would replace it only provides a residence permit. Malta does have a similar program, but it is not the golden passport, but rather the distinct golden visa program.
