Submission Statement : European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will ask Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cooperation in enforcing sanctions on Russia during their meeting in New Delhi this week. Alongside von der Leyen, other European Union officials will engage in discussions on market access and India’s high tariffs on products such as cars and wine as part of ongoing negotiations for a free trade agreement, an EU official said during a virtual background briefing on Tuesday.

Why would India enforce sanctions on Russia? With US on Russia’s side now, India has even less of an incentive to break it’s good relations with Russia.

Infact it’s in India’s interest to have a strong Russia and USA and Russia being aligned together, to keep China in check.

    3. Enforce which sanctions exactly? The UN has not sanctioned Russia. Nor has India. What is Ms von der Leyen talking about?

Is she talking about European sanctions? Surely, they ought to be enforced by European countries and bodies. Why would India enforce European sanctions? We are no longer Europe’s colony.

These kind of demands reminds me of [this exchange from Yes Minister](https://youtu.be/kDEBdK7dZN8?si=PxXUXuAmU61g60Ey)

And why would they do that? India only recognizes UN sanctions to begin with

Yes India can help the EU in this matter…..

The EU is STILL buying Russian gas, up by 18% last year.

Last year the EU paid Russia €6.3 BILLION. Most of the gas goes to France, Spain and Belgium. (EU leaders sit in a Parliament heated with Russian gas.

French consumption of Russian gas was up 81% in 2024.

      India can stop that.
