I think I need to stop reading the news just to keep my mental sanity in check. I am not even American and I feel rather depressed by the state of things
Sounds about right for this administration, science what is science? Science bad. Shame science.

I’m begging all of you Americans that see this post to call and write your representatives. To lose the JWST so soon would be the most monumental disregard for taxpayer dollars short of sinking an aircraft carrier the day it leaves. drydock.
Spacecraft like JWST require consistent, uninterrupted monitoring, maneuvering, testing, and any gap in that „care and feeding“ risks the loss of the spacecraft itself. And just as important, these missions require layers of dedicated professionals to make them possible. Program engineers, mission planners, contractor support, astronomer, and numerous participating researchers across dozens of disciplines. Cutting those personal mean there is no mission, because it takes people to collect, interpret, ans publish that data that the telescope receives.
If you want space science to happen, you need to be the voice to speak up for it.
I read the article, why is there a request process for the data and why isn’t it hosted for anyone who wants it?
This is what I don’t get about government IT. seems like everyone has their own IT with no central organization or central resources like enough storage to host everyone’s data in one place
To clarify: they are talking about saving [$37.4M](https://spacenews.com/jwst-facing-potential-cuts-to-its-operational-budget/) per year for the next 5-15 years of the JWST mission or $187-561M over the entire period which threatens to significantly cut benefits from the $10B+ program. Musk with DOGE save the US so much money that America is risking to go bankrupt.
Do you think Elon or Republicans care about the science? Absolutely not.
Bit hey, billionaires don’t have to pay taxes. That’s what’s important here.
So profoundly less money for data analysis. Just keeping the telescope running is a small posrt of the budget
Yup, very nice of Musk. Just a few years ago, he admits in a tearful interview that NASA saved Space X. Now he’s turning around and stabbing them in the back.
I remember being so excited reading about the JWST in high school before it launched. I was ecstatic when it finally became a reality, and now it’s going by to be ripped away
Hey, tax cuts for billionaires won’t pay for themselves.
There is literally no good news coming out of the USA. It’s shocking.
