Ich lebe in den letzten drei Jahren in Eriwan und kann nicht anders, als mich von den Behörden desillusioniert zu fühlen. Es ist klar, dass die Regierung kurz vor den Wahlen leicht auf Populismus zurückgreift und oberflächliche Lösungen anbietet, die nicht die Wurzel der Probleme ansprechen. Ich habe aus erster Hand die Zerstörung von Bäumen, Überentwicklung durch Spot -Konstruktion und unzählige korrupte Pläne gesehen, die unbemerkt bleiben oder von den Machthabern ignoriert werden.
Noch entmutigender ist zu sehen, wie die Einheimischen diesen Problemen gleichgültig erscheinen. Niemand scheint sich um die breiteren Probleme der Stadt zu kümmern, und es ist besonders frustrierend, Armenier aus Russland und Relokanten aus Russland zu beobachten, die versuchen, lokale Probleme anzugehen. Sie haben die gleichen Muster schon einmal gesehen und verstehen, wohin dies führt. Es fühlt sich an, als würde niemand tatsächlich auf eine nachhaltige Zukunft für Armenien hinarbeiten, nur kurzfristige Gewinne.
Wie sehen Sie die Zukunft Armeniens? Gibt es Hoffnung auf sinnvolle Veränderungen oder stecken wir in diesem Zyklus fest?

Uhhh…what?
A day doesn’t go by when we don’t call out the government for its failures.
Populism before elections goes on pretty much everywhere.
People are apathetic as a coping mechanism, hope was thoroughly squashed out of them.
Yerevan inhabitants did make their frustration know, which is why Avinyan managed to become mayor and pass many of the resolutions only thanks to some backroom (and frankly somewhat questionable) political deals. Even the participation in the elections was abysmal. That’s how the voters let the government know they are very dissatisfied with how they work.
Among other things. Why did they stop demolishing illegal structures is what I want to know. They came to our neighborhood, took down two fences that walled off public areas, 1 bisedka and just left.
It’s like they can only get their shit together and work for two weeks in a year. Or whenever they need to film some footage of them working for the TV.

I get populism issues and all that, although looking at the world right now everyone is kinda doing the same, but what I don’t get people complaining about the the damn trees being pruned all the time? I understand they look sad at that moment, but it’s not like they have been rooted or cut down to stump. It’s gonna GROW BACK and, if done correctly, even nicer looking then it was before. Not to mention there are thousand other reasons to prune. Not a dendrologist.
Also as someone who lived here basically his whole life I can tell you that there is definite progress. Progress is slow, it could be faster, but it’s there.

The long term goal is eu membership THATS what the gov and people need to be working towards with these aspirations change and development naturally cine along with it as you have to meet the minimum standards for membership talks
As for the environmental and attitude aspects well these 2 were at the bottom of the concerns of armenians for a long time and only recently became something that needs to be tackled so give it time and enough initiative and it will be addressed and tackled
Back then when I first visited the streets were polluted like crazy and now they are waaay cleaner and people are more willing to actually throw their trash into the bins

Populism is the new woke. It’s being used as something negative and it’s not necessarily negative. Social security, universal healthcare, and free education are populist programs. Those I would argue are wonderful populist programs. What we want is good governance and the problem is we don’t come from a culture of good governance. This is all trailblazing for Armenia. The good thing is we have a sense of what that looks like.
OP is just freaked out by trees being trimmed. It’s maintenance work for the trees that has not been done for decades so it seems like „new“ or „bad“ to you. while ackshly it’s good for the trees.
If you want proof just wait a month and look at the trees that were trimmed last year, stop whining
I believe the major issue here is the lack of communication. What if they put a poster or make a fb post explaining what’s going on with trees, and why they should cut them. Just inform and that’s all.
Populism sure, there are many valid things to be said, but this post entirely ignores, even makes previous governments look good. You are completely looking over the fact that the reason we know all of this is because we are more transparent than ever, and we have the freedom of speech, both of which we never had previously. We never would have known what’s going on before, and even if we did, we couldn’t protest about it, so in a way, this is a good thing?
Secondly, can we stop with the trees? Good on you for witnessing the removal of trees, I wish they would have done it sooner. These trees need to be removed for various reasons I have discussed several times, it’s not just about rot, there’s a whole chain of biotic relationship between them. If anything, they needed to be replaced over 10 years ago.
Spot construction, maybe, i’ve seen work done in distant villages and towns. These places looked like they were from the 1800s several years ago.
Corrupt schemes, yes, there are, yet, it’s a fraction of what used to be.
Locals are not indifferent. The problem is, this whole thing has gotten politicized and people are informed through political chaos, instead of actual well being of the country. The whole tree chaos is one of them.
That said, I don’t think we have enough experts in the country to get work verified by professionals, it’s mostly opinions and chaos. But yes, there’s a lot of areas to improve and a lot of corruption going on, it’s just that, getting worked up about all this is just wrongly placed for two reasons, one being we’re getting informed, which is great, the second being it was uncomparingly worse before, with a lot of good done being overseen. That isn’t to say that we shouldn’t demand better, that is not what I am saying.
