Russia and the U.S. will hold high-level talks in Riyadh on Tuesday, focusing on ending the war in Ukraine and restoring bilateral ties. U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov ahead of potential presidential negotiations. Discussions will also cover Gaza, where the U.S. proposes resettling Palestinians, a plan opposed by Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations.
It seems pretty clear at this point – the strategy is to bring Russia closer and pull it away from China and Iran, Ukraine to be sacrificed.
I suspect a Saudi-Egyptian counterproposal to Trump Gaza-Riveria plan will also materialize in this meeting in Riyadh or soon after, at which point the pressure will switch to Israel to accept KSA recognition deal that will likely include Palestinian state in one form or another.
Interesting to note Russia never voiced objection to Trump’s obviously non-realistic Gaza plan – they are probably in on it or have at least realized it’s a tactic to get one side to make the first move, not a genuine plan for action.
