      >“On that basis, we believe the rumours of Mr. Carney calling a snap election are credible,“ the memo states. „Taking a page from Doug Ford’s playbook, the Liberals believe that they can turn this crisis into a political benefit for them.“

You’ve got to be f***ing kidding me. You don’t get to vow that you will force an election as soon as you can, and then accuse the other guy of using what you wanted for his political advantage. My god, the NDP are so out to lunch it’s getting embarrassing.

Up until lately, the NDP were my first ranked choice, but I cannot deal with this ridiculousness.

    2. Won’t matter. The NDP are toast in this election (and I like them). They need a new leader. Singh has done some good things but it is time for a fresh outlook.

This will be Carney’s election to lose.

This should be a political opportunity! Times of upheaval like this could be opportunities for the NDP to stand out, and to provide a message and a plan that resonates with Canadians. But instead they just play these same tiresome games that the other major parties play, and so they don’t stand out as a viable alternative.

Crises make the very best political opportunities. The letter should read „We apologize to all members that we suck so bad at capitalizing on crises.“

I really do not think Carney calls one as soon as he gets into power if he is the candidate.

I think more likely is he has to get to the vote and then gets voted down.

    6. There’s going to be an election, it’s just a matter of who gets to say they called it.

Will Carney say he called it because he wanted a mandate?

Will Singh say he called it because he tore up the agreement and promised to do so?

Will PP say he called it because Canadians wanted a Carbon Tax election?

According to the latest Leger poll the NDP is in the low-to-mid teens which puts them well within the risk of losing official status. At this point I honestly believe it’s for the best that they suffer a historic defeat, because they clearly are in need of a full purge from the top-down given not just Singhs obvious incompetence but the fact that he somehow still appears to have the parties’ full support.

    8. As someone who’d vote NDP whenever possible, Singh has proven himself an unreliable leader.

He votes against labour interests, pretends he has to compromise his morals to get stuff through with the Liberals but then rips up the supply and confidence agreement due to Pollievre calling him out and gets nothing out of it except for going after Trudeau at every opportunity.

Let’s not even talk about how he’ll say one thing in an interview, then do a completely different thing entirely, then justify his position after.

His politics are incoherent and don’t reflect most of the NDP voter-base, I feel. He’s supposed to stand up for us, but often seems more interested in standing up for his own interests and just going for quick & dirty digs at the federal for doing things he voted in agreement to.

I don’t think he realizes his base align with Trudeau more than Pollievre, and going to repeat Pollievre’s talking points just means more people are going to vote CPC.

I’d rather vote for someone who isn’t as fickle as the wind. I’ve written to the MP that when election season calls, I can’t in good conscious vote for NDP and it won’t even be due to strategic voting.

Really seems like Singh wants the Conservatives to be in power or something. He’s been doing his damnedest to help make it happen lately. Did Poilievre get to him and bribe him with money or promises or something?

    10. My hypothesis.

The NDP caucus are going to force Jagmeet to resign.

And then the interim NDP leader (Angus?) will cut a deal with Carney to keep the Liberals in power until maybe even 2026.

The NDP desperately need a new leader. I’ve been extremely disappointed in Singh recently. He’s not acting in a competent manner under present circumstances.
It’s a shame Charlie Angus is leaving federal politics, I’d love to see him lead the NDP.

      Dear lord,

Do the NDP leadership do anything but whine that the liberals don’t hand them everything they want on a silver platter?

It’s not good for the country but they deserve any losses they suffer from their petulant attitude alone.

    13. NDP: we will call an election as early as possible

polls look good for LPC: OMG, The LPC may want an early election, the same early election we’ve been calling for. Those bastards

Carney will call it before Parliament resumes for several reasons:

      1. Doesn’t make sense to resume Parliament knowing they don’t have confidence

      2. He doesn’t have a seat in Parliament. It’ll be ridiculous for the PM not to be in there defending the government

      3. If he wants to buy himself some time, he can wait 2 weeks to campaign before calling the election.

I also think it’s best for our democracy for him to call an election immediately. Let the Canadian public decide if he should remain PM beyond this interim period. We also need a stable government asap to deal with Trump.

He thinks the smack talk works with all Canadians… it doesn’t work for your base, and generally not the liberals either.

The people you’re trying to appeal to want nothing to do with you and likely never will… but you have a chance to win your base and the liberal base and this is what you do with it…

Embarrassing… from a usually NDP voter
