“New calculations suggest that a large asteroid recently predicted to have an increased odds of striking Earth could miss the planet and might instead impact the the Moon.
Nasa’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, or Cneos, reviewed the trajectory of the asteroid 2024 YR4 and found that its odds of striking the planet in 2032 doubled to 2.3 per cent up from about 1 per cent.”
If it smashes into the move, i hope it doesnt take it out of orbit, because then it would be catastrophic for earth

I’m putting chips on it hitting the moon.
But it hits the dark side of the moon. All the buildup and no one gets to see it.
Maybe it will hit Washington DC. Then we can just start over.

It’s about time the timeline did a course correct.
This asteroid has turned out to be such a disappointment.
According to NASA, this event only happens once in a blue moon.
When reached for comment, the Moon stated that the Asteroid better watch out for its Dark Side.
We will not stop hearing about this asteroid for a while now…
The update I read was that there is now an updated calculation of a one in fourty-two chance of hitting Earth.
It could create smaller objects from the impact, but the odds are low either way.

Reminds me about that story when an asteroid strikes the moon cause one did anything and it was so much denser than anyone realized. Can’t remember the name but it was a phenomenal read

This is what we’re all afraid of this year? This is getting the clicks? It’s not sharks or old people driving or randomly being punched by a stranger? It possibly getting hit by an asteroid in like 12 years. The odds are so slim and yet it’s everywhere on the news feeds.
With the state of the world as it is, a small part of me hopes it hits. My place in particular.
Knowing my luck with fluking out on that massive aurora borealis last year and missing that cool comet as well, it’s probably going to be during daytime with the moon barely visible.
When exactly? Cos I’d like to book a holiday to the Maldives on a credit card if I know I don’t have to pay it back…
