I love how the invasion of Ukraine by Russia didn’t usher in this shift, it took Trump having to pretend threaten Greenland for the Europeans to stop virtue signaling and actually increase defense. Madman theory works.

People are way too pessimistic in this thread. Europe is successful in a lot of other technologies? A lot of the original innovation in AI happened in Europe. Deepmind is primarily British. Geoffrey Hinton was also British (albeit in Canada). Jürgen Schmidhube was a big innovator in the field as well. German obviously. Europe still produces a lot of top minds in the field.
Europe is on track with the green deal to decarbonizing their grid and producing cheap power wbich is essential for the AI to function economically.
