    1. This article is a discussion about putting a 1-10 ExaFlops supercomputer in orbit around the Sun at a distance of 0.2 AU. Capable of harvesting 1GW of Solar energy the HPC system will work uninterrupted. It will have a 2Gbps data bandwidth to Earth. The entire project will cost around USD 50 billion. This will be the first step to a Matrioshka brain as well as autonomous deep space exploration.

    2. I can’t take this proposal (or at least this write up) seriously. They mention cooling super computer on earth being hard and expensive as a reason to go space, when cooling in space will be much much harder.

      Dissipating unwanted heat without matter around to soak it up is a bigger challenge than doing it on earth with water or even air…. It was a huge engineering feat for the ISS.

    4. Seems like a bad idea.

      Computers generate a lot of heat and the article does no real work with a solution.

      It would also be a disaster for maintenance and repair.
