Mein Freund und ich gehen dieses Wochenende aus Kroatien nach Brüssel und Gent, aber wir fragen uns, wie die aktuelle Situation in Brüssel in Bezug auf die Schießereien ist (die Schießereien (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn4mvl1ngk1o). Ist es für uns sicher, nach Brüssel zu gehen? Arbeiten Menschen nach den Schießereien normal? Danke schön! 🙂

I am working in Brussels right at this moment. Most people dont even know that anything happend here. Its ok 🙂
dont worry about it. it is not like the shootings in the states where someone mows as many people down as possible. there is some beef between some people related to drugs. that means they are targeting specific people. and after the incidents of today and yesterday there is a good chance that they are going to lay low or look for a situation where they are more sure of hitting their target. a situation where there is too much of a crowd is not ideal for them.

Just stick to the touristy areas and you’ll be fine. This is all happening in shit parts of the city where you have no reason to go.

This particular event is taking place in Anderlecht, about 2 km from the city centre. It’s drug related violence, not aimed at tourists or other common folk. Police are out in droves to look for these guys, so they’re forced to lay low for the foreseeable future. If they’re not already found in the mean time.

Nothing to worry about. This sort of thing is quite normal here so everybody is acting as any other day. The rare ones among us with a job are working normally yes.
Why would you go to Brussels? Do Ghent and Brugge instead.
You should be safe especially if you stay in central brussels. The shooting happened in the Anderlecht commune so its far away enough form all the main tourist sights.
U/Rave-Kandi can’t recommend anything from Brussels. Don’t mind the troll. Compared to Croatia however, nothing will be ‘budget’. You could try a ‘frituur’ and order a pack of fries with ‘stoofvleessaus’ and mayo. More typical belgian and economical impossible.
I mean there are also areas in Berlin or London that you wouldn’t want to walk around in alone at night. It’s a capital city so stuff happens and there are nice parts and not so nice parts.
Avoid Brussels at all cost, the place is a huge shithole & you are likely to get mugged. Ghent is a real fun city though. You could always replace your visit to Brussels with Bruges.
