SS: Debate on European TV about Trump’s foreign policy which seems to align with a tradition of continental expansionism seen in the presidencies of William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. Trump, like his regional expansionist predecessors, focuses on tariffs and asserting dominance over the Western hemisphere and the Pacific.
Trump praised McKinley in his inauguration speech and renamed a mountain after him. He clearly sees him as inspiration.
McKinley’s annexation of Hawaii, the Spanish-American War, and the acquisition of the Philippines reflected a strategic push beyond the mainland, but it was rooted in securing American influence in the Pacific and Latin America.
Roosevelt’s „Big Stick“ diplomacy and the construction of the Panama Canal cemented this focus.

Trump isn’t a „continental expansionist“. Trump saw Greenland on a map, saw it looked big and thought „*if Trump add big land to America, Trump great president, everyone love him*“.
It’s just absurd to think that Trump has any sort of geopolitical thought. He functions on a very basic level, there is decades of evidence for this. The Heritage Foundation ghouls definitely do have designs, but not Trump.
