I’ll just read the racey parts of the Bible like all good Evangelicals (of which I am not).

Right. And Nany Reagan’s coming for the Afghan Kush I’ve got growing in my garden.

    4. The internet business model has become data collection. Is it possible to do age verification without it becoming another bucket in your data profile, available for anyone to buy?

We will be OK for two reasons.

One, people won’t act on a lot of really important political issues, but they will act on the things they use too often. When ticktoc was banned for a second there, there were a few news stories of people setting fires (among other things) to their local legislation buildings because of the ban.
Can you imagine what taking away people’s porn would cause the crazy people to do??

      And two
Nothing ever happens. The internet is full of people who will find their ways around things, or inevitably just break whatever legal nonsense that it will just fade away since most of these people trying to pass internet legislation don’t even know what they are doing and will wind up just forgetting about it because they don’t actually understand it.

It will be fine just like every single other overhyped „OH NO THE INTERNET“ fear monger thing has been in the past 10 years.

    6. Any system that involves the government knowing who is doing and watching what is automatically going to lead to bad outcomes.

Is it too easy for children to access online pornography? Yes. And there’s also no doubting that what is available on even mainstream sites is much more extreme than the kind of stuff that children could get their hands on in the 1980s and 1990s.

Frankly it would simply be easier for parents to request that their service provider for home and mobile data block certain types of websites rather than have to rely on a range of blocking apps etc that may not always be easy to use or reliable.

    7. 2030: Scientists are struggling to explain a large discrepancy in eyesight and upper-arm strength between U.S. and European males….

    8. I mean, if they do this, porn sites are going to be the largest owner of verified human data in the world.

    9. Free-for-all?

Aren’t almost all the major websites owned by the mothercompany of pornhub?

*looks at VPN* *looks at AI image generators* I’m not sure this will be effective…dumb, but very un-effective.

That shit does no good anyway. Time to start beating off to books again.

    12. To (approximately) quote Dr. Cox from Scrubs: if they took all the porn off the Internet there would just be one website left and it would be called “bring back the porn”

    13. As a European, I find it extremely weird that Americans think that pictures of naked women is more damaging than owning guns lol

We all knew the internet fapocalypse was coming at some point or another. Pleasure wanking with you folks.

    15. BaseHitToLeft on

Lol no it’s not. To quote some meathead who used to be funny on Newsradio – „Getting porn off the internet is like trying to get pee out of a pool“

anti-porn laws arent about kids, they are pushed by crazy conservatives and those who hope to use leaks of ID verification for blackmail.

its on the parents to educate their kids about safety in the internet, so if they do end up on a bad site, they know to leave.

    17. CaptainLookylou on

So instead of finding what they want on easy to search websites, teens will now have to search for their illicit material from darker/illegal sources? Because let’s be honest, bans arent a deterrent, right?

    18. The thing is, VPN’s & torrent sites still exist. I doubt much will change at all. Unless you are a total Luddite.

    19. Spoiler: it is not (shocking)

It talks about how Phub is a „last holdout“ when Phub hasn’t been relevant for aficionados for years, since its stricter rules and banning of pirated content came into effect.

There is no mention of Onlyfans, probably the biggest source of people (especially younger) selling body pictures online

If the US can actually push through more „face verification“ laws and protocols, and people actually accept it it’s gonna be interesting, but it sounds like a serious threat to privacy, and it’ll be a very different era if people when people have stopped pushing back against that

That’s alright. I can now relive the rush I got as a kid finding a porn cache in the woods around my old neighborhood. „40 year old man charged with trespassing. Told authorities he was searching for late 80 era pornagraphic magazines.“

The golden age of internet porn has been over for a while. Ever since sites required all videos be registered (or something like that) all the real videos of real life porn went away and were replaced by well… scripted and produced porn videos. No more seeing real life situations.

    22. Hevens-assassin on

You mean in the U.S., with a Republican controlled court at the highest level, they are doing something that is in line with everything they’ve ever said? Colour me shocked.

    23. MilkofGuthix on

If you’re bothered about what your children can access online and can’t be bothered setting up the appropriate restrictions, don’t let your children have phones or computers

    24. >Explain to me why the barrier is different online than in a brick-and-mortar setting

Because a guy looking at your ID in a brick and mortar store doesn’t keep a record of it and their memory can’t be accessed by anyone anywhere in the world who has malicious intentions.

      Simple difference really.

Looking forward to returning to the section of the video store with the curtain

Was just using onlyfans and it kicked me out and asked for a scan of my id… tried mobile and desktop premium vpns and same issue… I’m unhappy… but may upload my ID.

    27. Porn sites will work around the ban by relabeling everything using gun vocabulary

    28. Porn is a huge issue but let’s keep letting pharmaceutical companies and sports betting companies bombard the shit out of us with ads every waking moment of our lives ? Okay then…..

    29. There’s quit a bit of porn on Reddit? Holy smokes, let me investigate 🧐
