      I suspect the reason for the invite is to say to bigger countries „look at the poxy little country we invited instead just to spite you“. He wasn’t chosen because Malta may be important to him; he was chosen because Malta is, on the global stage, about as unimportant as a country can get.

      Malta will possibly become the location for peace negotiations Ukr/Rus. It’s just logic. Switzerland wasn’t neutral, Lavrov was just in Malta.

      Malta is strategically very important to the US, given its location. That’s why the US embassy in Malta is so impressive.

      If you’re invited, you will attend. It can have both benefits and it’s problems, but it’s too early to pass judgement.
