I work deploying AI solutions. The answer is empower us first and gradually replace us as it improves. New jobs will be created yes, but I’m afraid new ones will not grow at a high enough pace to cover the looming replacement.
No one knows what will happen. We will be like ants among giants. Maybe the giants will avoid stepping on us, and maybe they won’t. Maybe they will up and leave earth, maybe they’ll restore the environment, maybe they will merge with us, maybe it will all end in a grey goo.
Artificial Intelligence has already replaced the US.
Clickbait. Some replacing; more creating; tons of empowering.
Can’t Empower us if it is mainly controlled by the rich. Will be used to exploit us better imo.
Why can’t it do both? We will see the end of labor and the beginning of an equal Era of peace and opportunity.
It really depends how we decide to structure our society in the future. In our current capitalist system humans are only valuable if they can provide monetary value for the oligarchs, once that goes away they’ll leave you to die.
Simple: AI will replace the working class and empower the wealthy. This is because once it makes the working class’s labor worthless, the only way to produce wealth will be through owning land or capital, and the owners of the land and capital will no longer need to pay humans for labor.
There are two ways this could go IF AI is able to replace workers.
1. Governments will reduce the work week to compensate for the productivity gains
2. Governments will do nothing (most likely scenario) and rich will get richer for a while, until people take it to the streets and there’s an actual war
There’s no question AI even in its current state makes people productive. I work in tech and while it cannot completely do my job yet, it certainly can do 50 percent of the work in a matter of seconds which will usually take a couple hours. For complex tasks and making everything work together, it’s certainly not at an advanced level.
