Some phones have a thing where they replace the moon with a series of pre-recorded images, slightly blurred.

I can imagine that forming from artifacting, and the „outline“ the moon has points me in the same direction.

First time there was an event in my state and it wasn’t cloudy. I actually got to see this one.

I’m so glad you posted this. My family kept asking me what that orange light by the moon was. I told them it’s probably Mars. This conversation happened hours ago. I ran across this and showed them.

Cloudy here in Maine, dammit. Always miss celestial events and auroras.
