    1. It’s not really a taboo, in fact I don’t even think that it is that big of a deal for most of the population but as with any other topic, some groups just shout harder and make it seem like a majority is against it.

I worked as a cashier in cactus on weekends during my studies and I can confirm that a lot of colleagues at the time were very much in favor to working on a Sunday given the pay premium.

    2. What do you mean taboo? It is improving in Luxembourg. Good luck to have any non necessities shops open in Germany on Sundays

It’s not a taboo. Some people want to pretend that it is. Hospitals, police, firefighters, restaurants, bars, supermarkets, etc. are at least partly working/open on Sundays.

    4. It’s not taboo, not even unions are against it in principle. It’s just that it comes without changes to the collective agreements and will result that many employees will have no choice and will only receive the legal minimum as compensation

    5. It is a double sided sword… We as humans have never been as productive as nowadays so the question remains our working times aren’t adapted to this fact.

Are people able to survive one or two days without having every store open for their pleasure? Do we constantly need to be running in the hamster wheel for every growing share holder profits?

I think that there can be definitely be adjustments made to accommodate some of the requests but we should be careful that it won’t end up having a negative impact on the people mostly affected by this: the low wage workers staffing the stores. On one side we need more children to keep society going while also taking away the 2 days a week where parents would actually be at home to spend time with their kids.

Also, will child care be provided for people who have to work on a Sunday or will this burden also fall on the low wage earners to find yet another expensive solution so that madame can buy an expensive jacket on her Saturday and Sunday off days?

For now the argument is: Yeah but if they work Sunday they will get more salary… Well why not eventually stop giving people a premium for Sunday as it is just another day like Wednesday if we slowly but surely turn it into a working day
