If you want a perspective of a Russian (anti-putin since 1999 if that matters)– this sign has zero effect on me. Same as fuck Russia graffiti or tags around Tbilisi. If I notice it – ok, yep, same as what a regular passerby would think seeing «dick, fuck, etc » sprayed on the wall – mostly nothing. I doubt that any adult person I respect has any inclination to shit on the walls of their own city or their grandma’s house in a misguided attempt at what, feeling like a rebel hero? It’s entirely masturbatory. You are risking nothing, paying nothing, giving nothing, only receiving. It takes infinitely more bravery for any citizen in Russia to disagree with their illegal criminal government enough to leave their home and not support the oppressive agenda, a moral choice at a cost. Whereas this graffiti or a post on social media costs the person nothing and only gives them – attention, «virtue », etc. It’s still important to be active and vocal of course but a real activist gives and helps by taking away from themselves – and giving to others at a personal expense – of risks, money or time. Those are the actions to respect — help for Ukraine and the refugees, and help for people fighting the regime everywhere.
