Vielen Dank!

Enjoy it whilst it is quiet. Whole island is going to be developed into some dystopian complex and mall soon.
Wish it would stay that way 🙁 there are plans to build a shopping centre, offices, apartments. So it will become like so many other parts of the island. I love that you can walk/bike right in and enjoy the sea with lovely views while not being sold anything. It’s quiet, it’s peaceful. What more could you want right off the noisy Gzira area?
25 years ago the entire island was given away to private developers to build luxury apartments and a hotel there, in return for restoring the fort that is on Manoel island.
The whole island was fenced off by the developers for many years until protestors ripped down the fence a few years ago. Now some people go swim there or walk around, but the whole place is more or less abandoned until works on the apartments start.
The Duck village used to be the highlight!
Search for News articles about Midi Malta and down the rabbit hole you go…
Used to camp and play capture the flag the there back in the mid 90’s. Thers loads of caves and passages underneath it too. Great days
Should be converted into a park imo. Manoel Island should be restored and made open to the public; plants, trees and greenery surrounding it. It would be a beautiful green lung in the centre of an urban landscape, unfortunately the government cares more about contractors‘ profits rather than the people.
Went there a few weeks ago and walked along the shore around the island, it’s actually quite beautiful with a very nice view of Valetta and Sliema. It’s a travesty its being turned into a residential area, it should be made a public park
The best bar in Malta was there! Funky Monkey! They closed it down a couple of years ago for another project they are yet to complete.
The Fortress is not exactly closed. There is a huge underground hospital you can explore and with an opening inside the fortress.
