AFAIK, she was…beloved, by the people, and celebrated for her sacrifice.
Was it ethical? A lot of people would say no, nowadays.
But was she sent callously? No.
The comic implies the Soviets launched a bear into space, but the only evidence of that I could find was a debunked AI-generated article on the subject.
