    1. These appear to just be a dehumidifier of some sort. And in particular arid regions, where water scarcity is at the highest, there isn’t a lot of humidity in the air.

      And even then, it’d be far better to invest in water purification, as it’s usually a pollution or pestilence issue as opposed to a lack of liquid water.

      No, they can’t scale, at least not affordably. They do work, and are used around the world, even in arid regions, but they are only cost-effective for drinking water. They’re cost-competitive against bottled water. But the vast majority of water use is for agriculture, and the vast majority of *that* is to grow food for cows we eat, and dairy.

      Nor are hydropanels the only option. Desalination is still getting cheaper, and there are known mitigations to the brine issue. Not perfect, but not „horrific“ either, if done correctly. But you can also incrementally adopt [controlled-environment agriculture](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controlled-environment_agriculture), which falls along a gradient. CEA uses about 90% less water. So a combination of CEA and desal is going to be a lot more economical and scalable than hydropanels, at the agricultural scale.
