I think it depends on how you reply if someone asks you why you went for that motive. Old people might react but they probably won’t say anything.
Personally I don’t care, never seen that motive before and I think it looks good.
Tattoos are very common in Norway.
That’s incredibly tasteless to me. Stave churches are national treasures, whether or not someone is religious. Losing any of them is a tragedy. I’m pretty sure most Norwegian black metal fans would agree. I get the impression they’re pretty embarrassed by the people who did this kind of thing. They would not commemorate it.
It feels cringey and old fashioned to me. This happened in the nineties and unless you want to make a very particular statement about burning stave churches it feels rather out of place to be honest. Then again, it shows a definite affinity to a very specific time and zeitgeist of Norwegian black metal and some people might like it more and some people might like it less.

I don’t believe it is my place to judge anyone for their choices. When I see this my thoughts assume whoever chose this tattoo most likely experienced trauma at the hands of someone who was harbored by the Christian Church.

Not gonna lie, i take offense to these kinds of tattoos. Stave churches are an important piece of our history and culture, and their burning was a damn shame. There are not many of them left, and they are one of the very few remaining historical constructions still standing.
Mostly cringe and dumb, and the inevitable question in my mind would (because of Varg Vikernes) be whether you intended it as a Nazi thing or not.
I’m a staunch atheist and would never be offended on behalf of Christian symbols, so it’s not offensive in that way. And while stave churches are beautiful buildings, it’s not like I think about them often, apart from when passing one while driving.
But this tattoo at least appears as a likely tribute to some of the biggest shitheads in Norway, universally disliked by everyone here who isn’t an utter asshole. Especially most Norwegian black metal fans, who would *really* dislike this.
I think getting a tattoo destined to offend a foreign culture for no apparent reason seems dumb and trashy. I wouldn’t get some „hilarious“ tattoo of the Taliban blowing up Buddha statues either.
