[Google famously said they didn’t have a moat](https://www.semianalysis.com/p/google-we-have-no-moat-and-neither) when it came to AI, and neither did anyone else. Time has only born that out. As OP points out, not only is open-source barely behind the leaders, so is China.
Investors are making big bets on hoped for big winners, but what if there are none? AI seems to be spreading in a decentralized fashion.
