It’s the super saver tickets from the official Bahn website, they are so cheap because usually there is no cancellation and you only can take the specific train booked on your connection (unless there is a big delay etc) so you can’t change plans a bit and have to be on time
This is the official DB (Deutsche Bahn) webpage. It’s **the** German train company. So you don’t need to worry about scams. However, there are a couple of things to consider:
– There is the tiny word „from“ in front of the 17.99€ meaning the actual price for a specific connection can be much higher.
– they use dynamic pricing just like airlines do. This means booking early can save you tons of money. Certain connections with high demand are expensive, and others with low demand are cheap. The prices constantly change.
– they have lots of different kinds of tickets. This is the super-safer offer. These are only valid for one specific train and cancellation is not possible. If you miss your train, or your plan changes, your money is gone. If you want to have more flexibility you need to choose other tickets. For example, there are tickets where you can use any train on a specific day with free cancellation included. These are a lot more expensive though.
– Prices for reservations are not included. This is always the case in Germany, unlike in some other European countries. If you want to get one it costs you 4.50€ per seat in the second class. If you don’t you can just board the train without it and look for free seats but you run the risk of standing for the duration of the trip
So use the DB webpage, type in your starting point and destination, and look at the different trains that run for the day. Choose one that fits your schedule and your wallet. Then during the booking process, you can see all the different options, like the different tickets and reservations. That’s precisely how all Germans book all their train tickets.
