The Finnish job market is not a good place for highly educated foreigners, never has been. It is more important to invest in plan B to find a job abroad after your graduation than it is to graduate, otherwise you will struggle immensely for years if your plan is to stay in Finland and chase the elusive stability and career advertised by privileged Finns with comfortable government jobs (hyvä veli) to attract international students and workers (oh look we are so cool like north america and few tech hubs in western europe…).

By now, and after the introduction of exorbitant tuition fees, it is clear that the „international talent“ is more like „international cash cows“ without any ROI not even an entry level job salary in your field, even the cleaning and delivery jobs market is saturated. What a mess!

I graduated in a highly sought after field (sosionomi AMK) and it took me almost a year to find a job. I was getting desperate because I didn’t get interviews for months, then suddenly in April/May it was as if a flip switched and I got suddenly 5 interviews at once, even for a job that I didn’t apply to (I still don’t know how that’s possible..) and ended up with *three* offers (including the one I didn’t apply for).

I never thought I’d be ever in the situation to choose so that was really weird. I’m happy because the one I picked was the right choice.
