What’s kind of hilarious about this is that if you machine-translate sentences instead of phrases, this stuff happens a lot of the time. People think that the algorithm will pick up on the context, or some magic like that. But what it’s actually doing is just to find a word-pair that occurs in a sentence like this more than 50% of the time. And so translating word for word happens to be more accurate in this particular case by a chance similar to winning a coin-toss.
