Auf dem Heizungszähler standen drei Zahlen und beide Eigentümer waren sich nicht sicher, was sie bedeuten. Nur eine mit n wird als Zählernummer identifiziert. Was sind die anderen beiden? Sind beide Verbrauchswerte oder nur einer? Wenn ja, welcher ist der andere?

This is a counting device, measuring your heat consumption per heater device … since I guess the heating of this building is for few apartments, this will allow to make correct calculation for your heating bills…
The numbers themselves don’t mean anything. They just count the amount of heat in an arbitrary unit. If it alternates between two numbers, one is currently counting up, and the other one is from the previous billing cycle.
At the end of the 12-month billing cycle, one part of the total operating cost of the central heating gets divided up by apartment size, and another part gets divided up by these numbers. So the higher your number, the higher your share in the total cost. But since you neither know what the total cost is going to be, nor how much heat the other apartments are using, you can’t attach a price tag to the number beforehand.
These meters usually cycle between the current year’s accumulated heating measure and the total of last year’s measure so that you are still able to verify the correctness in the yearly report of your heating bill.
