„In a press release, the Conservatives argued that given their proposed tax break, the average Canadian family could save $670 this summer with people in Alberta saving the most at $955 per family“
„The Liberals came to their 37,000-kilometre figure this way: The cost of the carbon tax, GST and federal exercise tax adds up to $0.29 per litre of gas. If you removed all those taxes, as the Conservatives call for, an Albertan famlily would need 3,293 litres of fuel to save $955.
The Liberals then assumed an average gas mileage of 8.9 litres per 100 kilometres and came up with 37,000 kilometres on the road. Enough for four round trips between Mexico City and Alberta or twice the distance of the world’s longest flight between New York and Singapore“.
Edit: and of course the CPC doesn’t account for the fact that most people get more rebated. So they want it both ways, count the external broad economic effects but don’t count the concreate rebate…
Both sides look like clowns.
Conservative used an all in price of all taxes.
Liberals pretty much said you shouldn’t be going on vacations.
Regardless of the math, Mark Holland came out as so out of touch when speaking, especially when he’s spending 85k per year of tax-payer money on travel.
Holland’s comments in the HoC made him look quite bad, as if there was something inherently wrong with taking your children on a road trip.
The Liberals it seems cannot help themselves when it comes to looking deeply out of step with the rest of Canada.
I’m taking my family on an East Coast road trip because flights are expensive and it allows us to see the country on our drive – not because I want to see the world burn.
Jesus dude.
the response was a bit of a miss. he should have gone with the CPC expects you to drive X amount of k for your vacation.
