I feel the petro industry will promote blocking the sun before letting solar win.
It’s funny though. I’m sure power companies have access to ridiculously efficient solar panels, while the average household consumer only has access to panels that aren’t very efficient at all.
There were panels created in the 1970’s that were %20 efficient. They immediately outlawed them so the power companies could keep all their money. They aren’t really much more efficient today to the average consumer, so I’m guessing the only reason we’re allowed to have them now is because power companies have access to panels that are %50 efficient or higher
You’re looking at this in the wrong direction. Instead of thinking „it’s X more doubling before Y“, it should always be „it’s X more *halving* before Y“. It’s more representative of how much harder it is to continually progress at the same pace.
If you’re guessing we reach a similar progress to what we have now every 5 years, then by 2035, it’s indeed half. by 2040, it’s 75%, etc.
This isn’t to say that the progress is great, it’s more to say: 100% is a really, REALLY, REALLY insanely strong ask.
There’s no way this could possibly be true, is it? China is definitely leading the way in sustainable energy and is a massive energy consumer, but places like India and the rest of the world are not nearly so far along?
China is deploying 3 gigawatts of solar panels in their country EVERY DAY. That’s the equivalent output of a large coal-fired power plant being built every 8 hours, 24/7/365.
Also, demand is increasing. I doubt 2 doublings is near enough (nor likely).
I don’t believe these stats and would guess they’re provided by the solar industry.

I agree with everything except coal. Our future really needs to end coal as soon as possible.
