This wrong and misleading: „Of the Earth’s estimated extractable gold, approximately 220,000 tons, or three-quarters, has already been mined, leaving an estimated reserve of only 66,000 tons“

220,000 is what we have already mined. Not what’s available..66,000 is what we know is there and still economicly viable to mine.

There is plausiblely BILLIONS of tons of gold left on the earth crust. The truth of matter is that we simply.havent found it all. Its impossible. Poke a stick in the ground here and it’s nothing. Poke it 5km east and it could be a gold vien. They aren’t pokokg evert inch of the Earth’s crust. Just look how surprised they are when they found this. First one in 50 years. They will keep looking and they keep finding more.

So to say 3/4 of all economicly viable gold has been mined is just really wrong and bad writing. But what do I know. I’m not a paid journalist.

It’s a common tactic used by companies trying to raise capital. There’s no way mining it in Japan would generate enough profit to justify the cost. It would probably be more profitable to mine it in Africa and transport it by tanker.
