Sounds like the rescue mission needs a rescue mission. This is just like KSP
Well, that sucks. Hopefully they can get it working again, but doesn’t sound like that is realistic.
NASA is so lost. They have completely forgotten how to contract and execute programs.
Especially sad as this was Stargazer L-1011’s final orbital rocket launch.

Unfortunate, but not completely unexpected for this mission to fail. It was essentially a hail mary from conception. From start to finish they only had 9 months to design, build, and launch it with a (relatively) low budget of 30 million dollars. It is unfortunate that the failure is something as simple as this and not the actual hard part of grabbing a satellite that was not designed to facilitate that. It was definitely worth trying: potentially saving a telescope that has had 500 million invested into it and gaining experience with a low budget, rapid response, rendezvous, grappling, and reboost mission.
That’s the thing about Reaction wheels, they’re only as good as their bearings.
Such a shame. Was a valiant effort.
Cheap and cheerful spells trouble.
This sucks sooo much with out Swift we will not be able to match large scale stellar events with their corresponding GRBs anymore.

Frustrating that a Crew Dragon could be there in a few days but doesn’t have any grabbers or other ways to actually do anything once there. That should have been designed years ago to use for this, Hubble, and anything else that needs moving in LEO.
Is it possible to stabilize a spin using a single reaction wheel? Like if you timed it to add torque at a specific part of the spin could you drag the axis of rotation around? I don’t think you could stop a spin but could you orient the spin around a desired axis?
I didn’t realize Taylor swift was still in space?
Sounds like they’ve had a common cause failure. My guess is that either they daisy chained a serial link, like RS-422/485 or they did something silly with the power to the wheels and cold gas system.
If they can actually gain control again there should be enough control authority possible to continue with the mission if they have smart GNC people. Those people used to exist at Goddard, but with all the chaos and retirements that may not be the case anymore.
