These trade issues will last way way longer than Trump. We will never replace the states as a trading partner and honestly I don’t think we will reduce it all that much. But it’s going to be a bigger headache than it should be.
Prepare for the new normal.

We should do a Canada/Mexico/Brazil free trade deal. We have the technology and resources that can help them accelerate themselves into even stronger economies; and they can offer us *replacements* for products that we’re accustomed to sourcing from the USA, like fruit. And they both have a growing middle class.

Great, America can be independent then, and that means Trump can cease all complaining about our American booze ban and any “jokes” about invading Canada.

We just need to stop feeding and indulging this troll.
It doesn’t matter what he thinks. He’s essentially an incapacitated corporate stooge. And corporate America absolutely wants CUSMA to stay intact.
Ice him out and stop caring about his latest bullshit hot take on the latest thing he’s too lazy to understand. Treat his speeches with the contempt they deserve and align the Governors and Corporate America on our side.

The american public is going to be so confused when industry and finance rugpull the united states after they choke it from its allies, trading and strategic, and delivery nothing to the betterment of the population.
They don’t realise that they will not benefit from any if the „independence“ the united states is creating right now.
If the united states doesn’t trade and play well with other jurisdictions in the world, the amount of product the united states population has to work with, zeros out.
US citizens won’t be able to start, grow, or re-tool its own business.
Profit goes from being created and earned by the countries citizens to being generated by only mega corps able to access in-source marketing (of the us buying population) and connect it to outsourced production of goods and services.
Then, the US consumer will be locked into a captive economy. Much like you find in other authoritarian countries, like soviet Russia, China, etcetera. They won’t be able produce things what they want, or one their own. And they won’t be able to trade for it either.
That isn’t independence. That’s an imprisonment.

If he didn’t care he wouldn’t be applying pressure to try and get a deal before the midterms. Everything is a lie, from what he says to the deals he breaks.

Thought by and large the people who vote for him view Reagan as a deity.
North American Free Trade is his government’s creation. It was incredibly unpopular with Canadians. Arguably one of the biggest factors in reducing one of the natural governing parties of this country to nothing in Parliament and ultimately ending that party.

Independent of what?
You don’t need to be a genius of have studied economics to know that not a single country on this planet can be completely independent.
Does Trump really wants to „Make America Great Again“ by having Americans work in sweat shops and manufacturing T-shirts and cheap shoes for their own consumptions?
If Americans likes it „big“ and „cheap“, then careful what you wish for….they might end up working for peanuts to keep consumer products prices low.

Actually No, Mr. President we are all dependent on each other. He should be honest with Americans about the pain he plans to put them through.

Thanks to NAFTA Canada lost it manufacturing jobs, getting rid of NAFTA/CUSMA will save the few we have left.
It’s going to be short term pain for Canada but America has completely shot itself in the foot on this one

So he threatens more tarrifs to force Canada to the table to get a deal negotiated under duress, blaming Canada for there not being a deal, and says he doesn’t care about a deal
